To expand and strengthen the research and education within advanced and applied chemistry, Department of Chemistry, DTU is looking for an Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of physical chemistry.
The new candidate will become a member of the Physical Chemistry Team.
The position is expected to start on 1 March 2011.
Responsibilities and tasks
The position implies a research focus within physical chemistry. The Department has the ambition to strengthen its international position in general and applicants should share this ambition.
The candidate will have the responsibility for teaching basic as well as advanced courses in physical chemistry. The teaching obligations will also include other basic courses in chemistry. One specific responsibility of the candidate will be to develop experimental teaching activities within physical chemistry.
A significant part of the courses at the Department are taught to B.Sc. students to whom lectures are given in Danish. The candidate is therefore required to be able to teach in Danish no later than 3 years after being employed.
As Assistant or Associate Professor at DTU Chemistry you are expected to collaborate with colleagues within the Department as well as at other DTU departments. You are expected to develop strong external relations with universities and industry in Denmark and internationally.
Qualifications
Candidates
- For an Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)
- For an Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship and should document didactic/pedagogic training
- Must have a strong research background in physical chemistry
- Must submit a research plan relevant to the position (3-5 pages)
Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to
- experience in teaching and education
- scientific production and research potential at an international level
- the ability to promote and utilize research results
- an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
- the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation
Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The department is responsible for teaching at the BSc, MSc as well as PhD level. The teaching activities are closely related to the active research projects of the department. The research is advanced chemistry ranging from relatively fundamental to almost applied research within chemistry with a polytechnic approach. The purpose is to explore the methods and concepts of modern chemistry which also relates to neighboring fields such as nanotechnology, physics, biochemistry a.o. Many research projects are aiming at applications within areas such as energy, pharmaceuticals, catalysis, and materials. The research is often performed in close collaboration with Danish and international industry or universities. The Department has approximately 150 employees.
